New Masonic Homes center named after Sam Swope

Business First of Louisville

A new $40 million facility at Masonic Homes of Kentucky’s Louisville campus will be called the Sam Swope Care Center, Masonic Homes announced today.

“Mr. Swope may be best known as founder of Sam Swope Auto Group, but he made Masonic Homes’ history by giving the largest individual gift we have ever received,” Masonic Homes of Kentucky CEO Gary Marsh said in a news release. “It is with respect, affection and profound gratitude that we name our new care center after him.”

The 180,000-square-foot center is scheduled to open this December. It will replace the existing Healthcare Center at Masonic Home of Louisville, which was built in 1927.

Masonic Homes officials expect to add 70 employees to provide dialysis and rehabilitation services to residents and others in the community. The new facility will be able to accommodate 136 residents.

“People’s needs have changed. They’re living longer and they’re going to need the services Masonic Homes will be providing in the new care center,” Swope said in the release. “I’m very glad to be part of the support.”
