So, you’re looking at the Chrysler Pacifica and thinking about buying a used one? Perfect, step this way. The first question we have to ask everyone is this: did you want that as a mid-size crossover or a minivan? It’s a serious question because two very different Chrysler models have carried the Pacifica moniker.
Chrysler Pacifica crossover (2004-2008)
The first Chrysler Pacifica is a mid-size crossover SUV that ran from 2004 to 2008. Experts call this one the Pacifica CS. A lot of people thought this Pacifica would be the best new vehicle because the Pacifica CS promised versatility. Big for a crossover, providing the spaciousness of a minivan but with the handling and footprint of a car. The Pacifica wanted to have it all, and very nearly did.
The drawback was the Pacifica’s terribly thirsty and overworked engines. The problem was corrected in 2017 with a new V6 engine but the damage to the nameplate was done. People had lost interest in the Pacifica and the model was discontinued at the end of the next year.
Here’s the beautiful thing though. The 2017 and 2018 Chrysler Pacifica are great. Not only do these two model years have the fewest consumer-reported problems, but they also have that superior engine and benefited from a mid-cycle facelift for a more modern look. The Pacifica has a great interior with individual captain’s chairs in back to separate the kids, and a great exterior with the look of a sports wagon and the space of a minivan.
Chrysler Pacifica minivan (2017-present)
The more recent Pacifica is a minivan, called the Pacifica RU by experts. Critics and owners love the Pacifica because of its versatile cargo area, its safety ratings, and its upscale and spacious interior.
Momentum is building for the Chrysler Pacifica, probably because of its quality. Each of its model years sold better than the last. So, if you’re in the market for a minivan, the Pacifica is a great one to look at. There have only been a few model years since this one debuted, so they might be hard to come by. But if you do find one, the depreciation has already slowed even while the vehicle has years and years ahead of it.
That being said, the more recent a Pacifica you get, the better. The 2017 model had a few hard-shifting issues as reported by consumers. That issue appears largely resolved in more recent model years.
People love the Stow ‘n Go seating that makes this dedicated people hauler into a versatile cargo loader with one easy adjustment. In addition, cupholders and pockets are throughout the cabin. While you’re inside, check out the upscale, soft-touch materials and comfortable seats. Marvel at the lack of blind spots because of superior visibility and massive windows. Everything exudes ease-of-use and comfort inside. And if there is one thing that the Pacifica takes very seriously, it’s safety. With top-notch scores in multiple safety ratings, the Pacifica can keep your family safe for years to come.
